What is Avios?

Checked 1 October 2026 · By the RewardsPilot team

Avios is the reward currency of British Airways Club and the other programmes that run on it, including Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub, Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Finnair Plus. Avios are spent on reward flights, upgrades, hotels and car hire. One is worth about 0.5p to 1.5p depending on the redemption, and costs 0.99p to 2.5p to buy.

What to know

  • Reward flights are priced in Avios by distance and cabin, off-peak and peak, plus a fixed fee under Reward Flight Saver.
  • Avios can be moved between the programmes that use them, so a balance in one can be spent through another.
  • British Airways sells Avios at 2.5p each in small amounts, 1.75p at 200,000, and 0.99p on its 200,000-a-year subscription, with bonus offers every couple of months.
  • A UK business earns 4 RewardsPilot points per £1 of net spend on bills it already pays; each point transfers to 1 airline mile, Avios included, or sells back for cash at 3% of the spend behind it.
